About- Innovational Research Incentives Scheme Veni is a grant for researchers who have recently obtained their PhD.

Veni is part of the Incentives Scheme. It allows researchers who have recently obtained their PhD to conduct independent research and develop their ideas for a period of three years.Netherlands Organisation-Scientific Research offers Postdoctoral fellow every year.

Eligibility/Qualification– Veni is targeted at outstanding researchers who have recently obtained their PhD. They are at the start of their scientific career and display a striking talent for scientific research. Veni applicants must have obtained their doctorate within the last three years. The 2019 Veni round is open to researchers who meet this criterion on 1 January 2019.

NWO will ask candidates for an ’embedding guarantee’ from the start of the new application round for Veni funding (call 2019). Researchers can only submit applications for Veni funding with the support of the Dutch institution where they intend to conduct their research.  More information about the Veni- embedding guarantee is now available:

Job/Position Description- NWO will ask candidates for an ’embedding guarantee’ from the start of the new application round for Veni funding (call 2019). Researchers can only submit applications for Veni funding with the support of the Dutch institution where they intend to conduct their research. It is expected to lead to fewer applications and to be more consistent with the research institutions’ personnel policy. More information about the Veni- embedding guarantee is now available:

A researcher may apply for a Veni grant on a maximum of two occasions.

Researchers from outside the Netherlands may apply.

There may be a possibility of an extension in some cases. Further information is available in the document Frequently Asked Questions. Please consult the list of courses eligible for extension.

250,000 euros per grant

How to Apply- A funding round is held every year. For the next Veni funding round (2019), there is a compulsory pre-proposal phase for candidates within the domains Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) and Applied and Engineering Sciences (AES). A pre-proposal is considered as an application.

Last Date for Apply– The deadline for submitting  applications in the round 2019 for all domains is 8 January 2019.
