About- VCRC (VECTOR CONTROL RESEARCH CENTRE) is one of the permanent institutes of Indian Council of Medical Research established in 1975 at Pondicherry. A centre of excellence for research and training in vector-borne diseases and control and a WHO collaborating Centre for Research and Trainining in Lymphatic Filariasis and Integrated Methods of Vector Control.
Project Title-Laboratory studies on Wolbachia based Vector Control Strategy for control of Dengue/Chikungunia transmitted by Aedes aegypti
Location- ICMR-VCRC, Puducherry, India
Duration– Initially for a period of one year.
Eligibility-
- Scientist ‘C’ (Non-Medical) – No. of Post: 01 post (UR:01)
Essential Qualification: I class Master Degree in Life Sciences from a recognised university
with 04 years experience (or) II class M.Sc + Ph.D degree in Life Sciences from a recognised university with 04years experience.
Nature of Duties: Laboratory/field coordination, supervision and support to the teams engaged in establishment of cyclic mosquito colony, conducting backcrossing, outcrossing and mating choice experiments and laboratory experiments on cytoplasmic incompatibility, vector competence, susceptibility to insecticides and Molecular screening of parasites/pathogen and molecular assessment of vector susceptibility to arbovirus.
Age Limit: Not exceeding 40 years
Consolidated Salary: Rs.51,000/- p.m. + HRA of Rs.4440/-
- Scientist ‘B’ (Non-Medical) – No. of Post: 02 posts ( SC:01, UR:01)
(i) Post 1: Entomology
Essential Qualification: I class M.Sc. in Life Sciences from a recognised university with two years’ experience in biomedical/Public Health Entomology field (or) II class M.Sc. with Ph.D in Life Sciences/Public Health Entomology from a recognised university.
Nature of Duties: Establishment of cyclic mosquito colony, conducting cross breeding and mating choice experiments and other laboratory experiments on mosquito strains.
(ii) Post 2: Molecular Biology
Essential Qualification: I class M.Sc. in Life Sciences from a recognised university with two years’ experience in molecular biology field (or) II class M.Sc. with Ph.D in Life Sciences/Molecular Biology from a recognised university.
Nature of Duties: Molecular screening and assessment of parasites/pathogen infection in vector mosquitoes and molecular assessment of vector susceptibility to arbovirus.
- Project Assistant – No. of Post: 04 posts (UR:02, OBC:02)
Essential Qualification: Graduate in biological science subject from a recognised University with Three years works experience from a recognised Institution (or) M.Sc. in Life Sciences.
Nature of Duties: To assist collection of mosquitoes in the field and rearing, colonization of mosquitoes, conducting crossing and mating choice experiments and other laboratory experiments on mosquito strains and molecular screening of parasites/pathogen/arbovirus.
Age Limit: Not exceeding 30 years
Consolidated Salary: Rs.31,000/- p.m.
- Project Technician-III – No. of Post: 02 posts(ST:01,SC:01)
Essential Qualification: 12th standard pass in Science subjects and two years diploma in Medical Laboratory or one year DMLT + one year experience in a recognised organisation or two years field/Laboratory experience or B.Sc degree in M.L.T.
Nature of Duties: Collection of vector mosquitoes in the field and maintenance of mosquito colony, assisting in conducting various experiments on mosquito strains. Assistance to DNA extraction and PCR assays.
Age Limit: Not exceeding 30 years
Consolidated Salary: Rs.18,000/- p.m.
- Project Technician-II – No. of Post: 02 posts (ST:01, SC:01)
Essential Qualification: High School or equivalent with five years experience in public health/biomedical field from a recognised Institution (or) Intermediate with Science with three years relevant experience (or) B.Sc. with two years relevant experience.
Nature of Duties: Collection of vector mosquitoes in the field; rearing and colonization of mosquitoes; assisting various laboratory experiments on mosquitoes. Assistance to DNA extraction and PCR assays and any other works as assigned by the superiors.
Age Limit: Not exceeding 28 years
Consolidated Salary: Rs.17,000/- p.m.
- Project Technician-I – No. of Post: 02 posts (UR:02)
Essential Qualification: High School or equivalent with one year experience in public health/biomedical field from a government institution or recognised institute or Intermediate with Science subject.
Nature of Duties: Assisting vector survey team in field, preparation of laboratory/glass wares, washing trays, bowls and other laboratory/glass wares, cleaning and maintenance of laboratory and assisting various laboratory experiments on mosquitoes strains and any other works as assigned by the superiors.
Age Limit: Not exceeding 25 years
Consolidated Salary: Rs.16,000/- p.m.
Job/Position Description- Applications are invited from the qualified Candidates upto 05.02.2018 for the following posts which are purely on temporary and ad-hoc basis to work under the project entitled “Laboratory studies on Wolbachia based Vector Control Strategy for control of Dengue/Chikungunia transmitted by Aedes aegypti” funded by ICMR.
