1 Year Postdoctoral Research Position: An exciting opportunity is available for a talented individual to contribute to automating precision material discovery using low-temperature scanning probe microscopy facilities. Join the team at HU Berlin to lead a task focused on automating sample preparation processes by interfacing hardware and scripts with FAIR data infrastructures. This role offers the chance to accelerate material discovery through the integration of FAIR data protocols and automation in multi-technique ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) surface science.
Designation: Researcher
Research Area: Automating Precision Material Discovery in Low-T Scanning Probe Microscopy Facilities
Location: HU Berlin, Adlershof, Germany
Eligibility/Qualification:
- A Ph.D. in an ultrahigh vacuum-related field is required.
- Expertise in low-temperature scanning probe or photoemission microscopy is recommended.
Job Description:
As a Researcher, you will be responsible for HU Berlin’s scanning probe microscopy (SPM) facilities, specifically two UHV chambers in Adlershof: a CreaTec® LT-SPMPEEM and Omicron VT-STW. Your role involves leading a task focused on automating sample preparation processes by interfacing hardware and scripts (e.g., PID T-controllers with pySerial) with the NOMAD database and FAIRmat data infrastructure. The proposed material discovery goal is to automate time-dependent parameters (deposition, annealing, pressure, irradiation) for optimizing graphene nanoribbons fabrication from molecular precursors, particularly on insulating interfaces. Collaboration with PEEM and LEED protocols will complement the criteria for successful material discovery, paving the way for low-temperature scanning probe microscopy studies with atomic-resolution.
How to Apply:
Interested candidates should electronically submit a single PDF file containing a cover letter, CV, copy of the Ph.D. certificate, and contact information for two references to:
