100 Fully-Funded PhD Program: The Life Science Zurich Graduate School (LSZ) at ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich invites highly motivated students to apply for its PhD program. Eligibility/Qualification: Prospective candidates must:

  • Hold or anticipate receiving a university Master’s degree or equivalent in natural sciences, computer sciences, or engineering.
  • Demonstrate an excellent track record and proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Be willing to undertake full-time PhD studies, typically lasting around 4 years.
  • Both national and international (non-EU) students are eligible for funded positions.

Job Description: The selected candidates will embark on a PhD journey within the vibrant life science research community at LSZ. The PhD program offers 80-100 projects per recruitment round, visible to all short-listed candidates. Assessment is based on applications and letters of recommendation. Short-listed candidates will undergo online interviews, with in-person visits for the final round. The LSZ Graduate School provides financial support, including travel reimbursement and accommodation in Zurich for in-person visits. The program’s next interview dates for the May 2024 deadline are in June and July 2024, and for the November 2024 deadline, in December 2024 and January 2025.

How to Apply: Applications must be submitted online via the LSZ Graduate School’s application tool. No applications sent by email will be accepted. Candidates must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent, with the option to apply if the Master’s degree will be received within 6-9 months after the application deadline. Only PDF files are allowed for submission.

Last Date for Apply: The deadlines for the main rounds of scholarship offers are May 1st (23:59 CEST) and November 1st (23:59 CET). Applicants must apply for admission by these deadlines. Virtual interviews for the May deadline occur in June 2024, with in-person visits in July 2024. For the November deadline, virtual interviews are in December 2024, with in-person visits in January 2025.

Admission Procedure: In addition to formal admission requirements, candidates must secure the approval of a supervisor for their planned doctoral thesis and apply to the University of Zurich Admissions Office. Details of the academic admission requirements and procedure can be found on the website of the faculty concerned. Admission decisions will be issued by the University of Zurich Admissions Office, allowing successful candidates to matriculate and commence their doctoral studies.
