Study Area: The RTG focuses on interdisciplinary research on “Sustainable Food Systems,” exploring crucial aspects related to poverty, undernutrition, obesity, climate change, and biodiversity loss. Candidates will engage in research that addresses key questions about the necessary changes in food production, distribution, and consumption, both in rich and poor countries.
Scholarship Description: These positions offer a unique opportunity for junior researchers pursuing a PhD degree. Successful candidates will engage in interdisciplinary research, collaborating with the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) in Washington DC and KU Leuven in Belgium. The positions are based in Göttingen, Germany, with international travel required for data collection and collaboration. Financial support for childcare costs during travel is available as part of the work-life-balance strategy.
Eligibility: Applicants should hold an outstanding Master’s degree (or equivalent) in relevant disciplines such as food and agricultural economics, development economics, sustainability studies, or related social sciences. Strong analytical skills, experience with statistical methods, a proven interest in sustainable food systems, excellent computer skills, and proficiency in English are essential. Candidates with data collection experience in an international context will be preferred.
