2 PostDoc Positions: The Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien) is seeking highly motivated individuals for two PostDoc positions within the Institute for Applied Physics. The positions are available in the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Surface and Interface Engineering, a collaborative research initiative between TU Wien, voestalpine Stahl GmbH, and Infineon. The laboratory focuses on investigating surface and interface states in high-strength steels and high-bandgap semiconductors to enhance product performance. The positions offer the opportunity to work with cutting-edge analytical equipment and collaborate with industry experts in both experimental characterization and theoretical modelling.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Education Level: PhD or equivalent
  • Research Fields: Surface and interface physics, surface chemistry, physical chemistry, electrochemistry, computational chemistry
  • Skills/Qualifications:
    • PhD degree or equivalent in the relevant fields
    • Previous experience with UHV systems and surface chemical analysis and/or modelling (advantageous)
    • Previous experience with theoretical modelling of surface processes (advantageous)
    • Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation, critical analysis of scientific literature
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
    • Ability to work independently and collaborate in a research team

Job Description:

2 PostDoc Positions for Surface and Interface Characterization and/or Modelling

  • Conduct research on surface and interface states in high-strength steels and high-bandgap semiconductors
  • Utilize cutting-edge analytical equipment such as Photoelectron Spectroscopy, Auger Microscopy, Low-Energy Ion Scattering, Electron Microscopy, and XRD
  • Collaborate with industry experts in ab-initio computation to prepare practical samples and devices
  • Develop computational atomistic models of relevant surfaces and interfaces
  • Analyze data, interpret results, and critically evaluate scientific literature
  • Work independently within your area of expertise and contribute to research team collaboration
