Scholarship Description:

The scholarship provides R184,000 per annum, which covers accommodation, living costs, tuition fees, medical aid, and books/stationery. It also includes additional benefits such as flight tickets to and from South Africa and visa-related costs.

Eligibility:

  • Must be a citizen of a Commonwealth country (excluding South Africa).
  • Must commence studies at the University of Pretoria in 2025.
  • Must have applied for a doctoral program at UP for the 2025 academic year.
  • Must have identified a potential supervisor at UP.
  • Must have submitted academic records to the South African Qualification Authority (SAQA).
  • Must have completed a postgraduate/Master’s degree within the last two years.
  • Applicants must be under the age of 40.
  • Current or former UP students (PhD or Master’s) are not eligible.

  • UP Online application Ref “T” number or 2025 student number.
  • Written motivation from the prospective Doctoral supervisor at UP, confirming research funding.
  • An outline (one A4 page) of the proposed research.
  • Curriculum Vitae (maximum 3 pages).
  • Proof of study leave (if applicable).
  • Copy of a valid passport.
  • Full academic transcripts (not certificates).
  • Two reference forms from different academics/supervisors.
