23P-61 Postdoctoral Researcher: The Pirbright Institute is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the African swine fever virus group. The person in this job will do research on African swine fever virus and how animals respond to the virus. They will report to Dr. Linda Dixon, who is the Group Leader.The role involves working on a BBSRC Grant in collaboration with UCL to explore transcription of a large DNA virus for global food security. The Postdoctoral Researcher will be responsible for delivering project objectives, analyzing and presenting results, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and biosafety regulations.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD and postdoctoral experience or equivalent in virology and molecular techniques
  • Knowledge and lab experience of transcription mechanisms of large cytoplasmic DNA viruses
  • Experience in protein expression and analysis
  • Evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills, including publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Strong teamwork and effective communication abilities

Job Description:

  • Deliver project objectives outlined in the BBSRC Grant Application related to exploring transcription of a large DNA virus for global food security
  • Develop methods and analyze occupancy of ASFV promoters by the virus transcription machinery
  • Construct recombinant ASFV with epitope-tagged subunits of RNA polymerase and characterize them using proteomics
  • Record and analyze data from experiments, present results at internal and external meetings, and prepare manuscripts for publication
  • Maintain compliance with health, safety, and biosafety regulations
