4-Year Postdoctoral Position: The Earth and Life Institute of UCLouvain is seeking a non-Belgian resident for a postdoctoral position focused on subsoil health and ecosystem services as part of the EU-project DeepHorizon. 4-Year Postdoctoral Position on Subsoil Health and Ecosystem Services

Designation: Postdoctoral Researcher

Research Area: Subsoil Health and Ecosystem Services

Location: Earth and Life Institute, UCLouvain, Belgium

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD degree in plant/soil/environmental physics
  • Track record of qualitative academic publishing
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in international, multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary environments
  • Significant experience in quantitative analysis of environmental datasets and/or modeling
  • Proficiency in utilizing Matlab, R, or Python
  • Excellent oral and written skills in English; additional knowledge of French is desirable
  • Must not have been a Belgian resident for the last 3 years

Job Description:

  • Develop research on subsoil health and optimal management, including the development and validation of holistic indices of subsoil health and investigating sustainable subsoil practices
  • Quantify the impact of subsoil management practices on ecosystem service benefits and work on the interactions between subsoil properties and root development
  • Write scientific articles for peer-reviewed journals, present results in international conferences, and co-organize scientific and teaching events
  • Assist in coordinating and organizing project-related agendas, deliverables, milestones, and deadlines; manage communication between the team and project partners; and plan, edit, and submit scientific review manuscripts
