Postdoctoral Research Fellow: George Mason University’s College of Science is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for the Hanley Color Lab. The position focuses on studying color perception in wild animals, using avian brood parasitism as a model system. The candidate will explore color categorization, background contrast, and color constancy in host decisions. Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Required:
    • Terminal degree in Biology or a related field.
    • Minimum 1-year relevant experience in the field or laboratory.
    • Previous experience with perceptual models, color categorization, background contrast, color constancy, coevolution, and host decision-making.
    • Strength in field ornithology, behavioral ecology, laboratory work (e.g., spectroscopy, photometry, optics), computation biology, or related areas.
    • Knowledge of perception and cognition.
    • Skill in publishing peer-reviewed research in respected journals.
  • Preferred:
    • Prior experience securing extramural funding.
    • Knowledge of egg recognition, color categorization, background contrast, or color constancy.
