Job Description:
MAC-MIGS 2024 – PhD Programme in Modelling Analysis and Computation
The MAC-MIGS 2024 programme provides an immersive experience in applied and computational mathematics. During the 4-year journey, students will engage in 90 credits worth of courses, including:
Semester and Year | Courses |
---|---|
Semester 1, Year 1 | 15-credit Group Project with an industrial partner |
Semester 1 + Semester 2, Year 1 | Two 15-credit courses on Contemporary topics in Applied and Computational Mathematics |
Throughout Program | Credits from the Scottish Mathematical Sciences Training Centre (SMSTC) and advanced courses at University of Edinburgh and/or Heriot-Watt University |
Throughout Program | Weekly attendance at the Applied and Computational Mathematics seminar |
Cohort-building activities, such as staff-student lunches and elevator pitches of research topics, will enhance the overall experience.

- Applications are centered around available research areas/projects, each led by an academic Supervisor.
- Applicants may apply to a maximum of two Projects.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview scheduled on 12 & 13 February 2024. Applications may reopen in February if not all positions are filled.
PhD Awarding Institution(s):
- PhD Projects with the whole supervisory team from one institution will be awarded a PhD Degree from that institution.
- PhD Projects with supervisory team from different institutions may be awarded a joint UoE-HWU PhD Degree (subject to agreement between the supervisors).
