PhD and Postdoctoral Positions on Nanotribology, Czech Technical University

ERC Funded Postdoctoral Positions, Charles University, Czech Republic

Postdoctoral Positions on Nanotribology: The Advanced Materials Group at the Czech Technical University in Prague and the Nanolino group at the University of Basel invite applications for PhD and postdoctoral researcher positions to explore nanoscale friction in layered van der Waals materials. The study, funded by SNFS-GAČR, aims to develop theoretical and experimental knowledge for “on-demand” control of nanoscale friction in transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs).

  1. 🌐 Positions available at Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU) and University of Basel (UNIBA).
  2. 💻 CTU positions involve atomistic simulations, utilizing classical Molecular Dynamics (MD) and quantum mechanical (QM) models. Supervised by Assoc. Prof. Antonio Cammarata and Prof. Tomas Polcar.
  3. 🎓 Requirements for CTU positions include a background in Physics, Chemistry, or Materials Science, with expertise in solid-state classical MD or QM methods. Programming skills and experience with HPC architectures are desirable.
  4. ⏳ PhD positions are funded for 4 years, while postdoctoral positions are funded for 2 years with a possible 1-year extension based on performance.
  5. ⚙️ UNIBA positions focus on preparing 2D MoSe2, MoS2, and other TMDs in an ultrahigh vacuum environment. High resolution atomic force microscopy (AFM) will be used for analysis, supervised by PD. Dr. Thilo Glatzel.
  6. 📚 Requirements for UNIBA positions include a background in Physics, Chemistry, or Materials Science, with expertise in surface science. Experience with ultrahigh vacuum equipment and AFM is advantageous.
  7. 📅 UNIBA PhD positions are funded for 3 years with a possible extension, and postdoctoral positions are funded for 2 years.
