Doctoral Researcher/PhD Student Position: The Institute of Molecular Infection Biology at the University of Würzburg is recruiting a Doctoral Researcher/PhD Student for a position within the DFG Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) SFB1583 “DECisions in Infectious DisEases (DECIDE).” The position focuses on studying host factors and pathways during infections with food-borne pathogens, particularly the age-dependent determinants influencing infections with Campylobacter jejuni.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • M.Sc. degree in life sciences or natural sciences
  • Background in infection/cell biology, microbiology, RNA/molecular biology, or tissue engineering
  • Strong written and spoken English skills
  • High self-motivation and dedication to excellent research

Job Description: The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary and international team, focusing on the elucidation of age-dependent epithelial determinants influencing infections with the food-borne pathogen C. jejuni. Key responsibilities include establishing adult and neonatal intestinal organoid models, applying dual RNA-seq for host/pathogen factor identification, and investigating molecular mechanisms defining age-dependent infection of intestinal epithelia.
