Study Area: The project focuses on the electrochemical synthesis of borohydrides via proton-coupled electron transfer reactions. The research encompasses the synthesis and characterization of molecular boron compounds, emphasizing the investigation of their electrochemical PCET reactivity and their application in the homogeneous C=O double bond electroreduction. The study involves various electrochemical and spectroscopic methods in solution.
Scholarship Description: The successful candidate will work in Prof. Dr. Siewert’s group, collaborating with Prof. Eric Rivard’s group at the University of Alberta. The research involves understanding the electrochemical C=O double bond reduction accomplished by main group compounds. The candidate is expected to participate in the structured doctoral program, present work at conferences, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and demonstrate proficiency in English.
Eligibility: Applicants should have:
- A university master’s degree in chemistry with a focus on physical inorganic chemistry.
- Profound knowledge in the synthesis of main group metal compounds.
- Experience working under an inert atmosphere and using spectroscopy.
- Preferably, experience in molecular electrochemistry.
- Willingness to participate in the structured doctoral program.
- Excellent English language skills; German language skills are desirable.
Required Documents: Applicants must submit:
- Curriculum vitae
- Motivation letter
- List of publications (if applicable)
- Certificate of education/academic transcript
- Letter of recommendation
