Postdoctoral Fellow in Environmental History: The Research Foundation of The City University of New York (RFCUNY) is inviting applications for a full-time, three-year Postdoctoral Fellow position in Environmental History. The position is part of the project “Melting Metropolis: everyday histories of health and heat in London, New York, and Paris since 1945,” funded by the Wellcome Trust. The successful candidate will be based in the Department of History at Queens College CUNY, contributing to a collaborative research team exploring the impact of high temperatures on urban communities.

Job Description: The Postdoctoral Fellow will be part of the Melting Metropolis project, investigating the history of high temperatures in postwar London, New York, and Paris. The role involves collaboration with a global research team, community engagement activities, and participation in both New York City-based and online project activities. Responsibilities include coordinating community engagement events, contributing to curriculum development with the New York Public Library’s Center for Educators & Schools, engaging in digital archival storytelling with Urban Archive, and publishing academic journal articles.
Other Duties: Candidates with experience in public history and/or digital history are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will assist in coordinating community engagement events, collaborate on curriculum development, and engage in digital archival storytelling. Conference, training, and research expenses will be provided by the project.
Qualifications: Applications are welcomed from various fields in history and environmental studies, with a preference for scholars working in urban climate and/or New York City history. Knowledge of the borough of Queens is advantageous. Applicants should demonstrate experience in archival and/or oral history work.
