PDRA – Developing Sustainable Polymers: The University of York’s Department of Chemistry is hiring a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) for the EPSRC Prosperity Partnership project. The role involves developing sustainable polymers for liquid formulations in collaboration with the Universities of York and Nottingham and industrial partner Croda.

Job Description:

  • Conduct polymerization of biobased monomers, characterize and evaluate resulting products.
  • Write up results for publication in scientific journals.
  • Contribute to identifying and developing potential research areas and proposals for independent or collaborative projects.

Department:

  • The position is within the research groups of Prof Helen Sneddon and Prof Antoine Buchard.
  • The Green Chemistry Centre of Excellence (GCCE) specializes in renewable feedstocks, green synthesis, and sustainable technologies.
  • The Department of Chemistry is known for its internationally recognized research and holds an Athena SWAN Gold Award.

Role:

  • Conduct research under senior colleagues’ supervision.
  • Polymerize biobased monomers, characterize resulting products, and publish results.
  • Assist in identifying and developing potential research areas and proposals.

Skills, Experience & Qualification:

  • First degree in Chemistry or natural sciences.
  • PhD in Polymer Chemistry.
  • Knowledge and experience of polymerization techniques relevant to biobased monomers.
  • Experience in independent and collaborative chemistry research.
  • Writing skills for research publication.
  • Ability to develop research objectives, projects, and proposals.
