ERC-Funded Postdoc Position: The VIB-UGent Center for Plant Systems Biology is offering a postdoctoral position within the ERC-funded project “COSI: Understanding organelle communication through COntact SItes in plant stress responses.” The research, led by Prof. Inge De Clercq, focuses on unraveling the communication between mitochondria, chloroplasts, and the ER during plant-pathogen interactions.

ERC-Funded Postdoc Position on Inter-Organelle Communication During Plant Biotic Stress Responses

Location: Ghent, VIB-UGent Center for Plant Systems Biology

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Ph.D. degree in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biology, Bio-engineering, or equivalent.
  • Expertise in plant molecular biology and cell biology.
  • Ability to plan and conduct independent research accurately.
  • Keen interest in organelle/cell biology, proteomics, intra-cellular signaling, and plant-pathogen interactions.
  • Excellent English communication skills.

Job Description: As a postdoc, you will:

  • Investigate inter-organelle communication during plant interactions with pathogens.
  • Design and implement tools to detect dynamic association between organelles using confocal and super-resolution microscopy.
  • Monitor contact site dynamics during various stress conditions.
  • Characterize the dynamic proteome at stress-induced contact sites.
  • Guide a Ph.D. project focusing on inter-organelle communication.

Profile: Essential

  • Ph.D. in relevant field.
  • Expertise in plant molecular biology and cell biology.
  • Independence in planning and conducting research.
  • Keen interest in relevant research areas.
  • Excellent English communication skills. Desirable
  • Experience in plant cell biology, confocal microscopy, super-resolution microscopy, proteomics, and/or plant-pathogen assays.
  • Publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Supervision experience (Ph.D. students).
