Postdoctoral Researcher in Digital Ethics: The Department of Media and Cultural Sciences at the Faculty of Humanities, Utrecht University, is seeking a highly motivated and qualified postdoctoral researcher in Digital Ethics in Public Administration. The successful candidate will join the Data School at Utrecht University, working on projects related to data ethics, ethical data tools, and the impact of digitalization on public administration.

Location: Utrecht University, Faculty of Humanities, Department of Media and Cultural Sciences

HOURS PER WEEK: 28 to 32

RESPOND NO LATER THAN: February 18, 2024

Qualification:

  • PhD in a relevant discipline (philosophy, media and cultural studies, public administration, artificial intelligence, or related background/experience).
  • Interest in data practices, governance, and a commitment to improving the ethical aspects of data practices in public administration.
  • Willingness to collaborate across disciplines and reach out to other fields.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
  • Academic language proficiency in Dutch and English; proficiency in German is an advantage.

Job Description: The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Conducting externally supervised sessions with the Impact Assessment Human Rights and Algorithms (IAMA).
  • Contributing to the development of IAMA tools, including a pre-IAMA quick scan.
  • Organizing course days, giving workshops and lectures.
  • Working on academic publications related to tools developed by the Data School and ethical practices in public administration.
  • Further development of tools such as The Ethical Data Assistant (DEDA) and IAMA.
