Fully Funded 4-Year PhD Opportunity: Teagasc & University College Cork offer a rare and exciting opportunity for a fully funded 4-year PhD studentship. The joint Ireland-New Zealand project focuses on Biological Nitrification Inhibition (BNI) capacity in temperate grassland species to reduce nitrous oxide emissions from ruminant systems. The project includes animal, field plot, laboratory, and desk-based modeling work.

Location: Teagasc Moorepark, Animal & Grassland Research and Innovation Centre, Fermoy, Co. Cork, Ireland (registered with University College Cork)

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Honours Degree (2.1 or higher) in a related discipline (e.g., Agriculture Science, Environmental Science, Plant Science).
  • Knowledge of lab-based techniques, pasture-based production systems, data analyses, and stakeholder communication.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic research team.

Job Description:

  • Quantify the effects of plantain on animal urination patterns and subsequent emissions of N2O from urine patches.
  • Upscale emissions to the paddock and farm scale under varying proportions of plantain in the sward.
  • Engage in animal, field plot, laboratory, and desk-based modeling work.
  • Collaborate with internationally recognized researchers in key areas.
