PHD Researcher (Part-Time): The Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) is seeking a highly motivated PHD Researcher for a part-time position (65%) as part of the AquaTrans project. This integrated priority project, funded by ZALF, focuses on promoting better water use through the integrative assessment of the transition to agroecology in Northern Ghana. The successful candidate will contribute to the natural sciences working package, specifically dealing with achieving a process-based understanding of feedbacks between different crop rotations, land use management, and water cycle parameters.

Eligibility/Qualification:
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in electronics, agriculture, horticulture, biology, geo-ecology, or related subjects
- Extensive knowledge of biogeochemical cycles, especially water and carbon dynamics
- Basic knowledge of data processing or programming language (e.g., R); familiarity with cropping systems in a West African context is advantageous
- Organizational skills, ability to work independently, and willingness for field trips
- Proficient written and spoken English; willingness to participate in German language courses
- Scientific curiosity and a keen interest in writing a doctoral thesis
Job Description: The PHD Researcher will be responsible for implementing and organizing the monitoring of gaseous water and carbon fluxes in the case study area. This includes overseeing fieldwork, developing low-cost DIY measurement devices, conducting data analyses using pre-developed scripts, and collaborating with project partners. Results will be communicated to stakeholders and the scientific community through workshops, conferences, and publications.
