PhD Project: Zeolitic Architectures, Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic

ERC Funded Postdoctoral Positions, Charles University, Czech Republic

PhD Project: Zeolitic Architectures: Join the dynamic research group in Heterogeneous Catalysis and Advanced Materials at Charles University, Prague, under the leadership of Prof. Jiří Čejka. We are offering an exciting PhD opportunity focusing on the advanced electron microscopy characterization of tunable zeolitic architectures. The project involves the synthesis of novel zeolitic materials using innovative approaches like the ADOR (Assembly, Disassembly, Organization, Reassembly) synthesis, allowing precise design and post-synthesis manipulations. The synthesized materials will be thoroughly characterized using cutting-edge electron microscopy and diffraction methods, with potential applications in catalysis.

PhD Project: Advanced Electron Microscopy Techniques for the Characterization of Tunable Zeolitic Architectures

Designation: PhD Researcher

Research Area: Heterogeneous Catalysis and Advanced Materials, with a focus on Zeolitic Architectures

Location: Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic

Eligibility/Qualification: Prospective candidates should:

  • Hold or anticipate receiving a Master’s degree in chemistry, materials science, or a related field.
  • Have a strong background in synthetic chemistry and an interest in electron microscopy techniques.
  • Possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate a keen interest in zeolite synthesis and characterization.
  • Be highly motivated and capable of working independently.

Job Description: The PhD project will encompass:

  1. Application of established synthetic techniques such as solvothermal synthesis, ADOR approach, swelling, pillaring, and functionalization.
  2. Development of novel synthesis strategies for tunable zeolitic architectures.
  3. Comprehensive characterization of synthesized materials using electron microscopy and diffraction methods, including in-situ heating TEM and Continuous Rotation Electron Diffraction (cRED).
  4. Preparation and description of new zeolitic materials for potential applications in catalysis.

The project’s scientific goals align with the advancement of electron microscopy methods for faster structure determination of newly prepared zeolites.

How to Apply: Interested candidates should submit their applications to Dr. Michal Mazur (michal.mazur@natur.cuni.cz), including:

  • Cover letter detailing your research interests and motivation.
  • Curriculum vitae (CV).
  • Academic transcripts.
  • Contact information for two references.
  • Briefly describe your understanding of one scientific discovery from the provided references in your cover letter.
