PhD Position: Chemical Exposures, Wageningen University, Netherlands

Postdoc in Netherlands

PhD Position: Chemical Exposures: Wageningen University & Research invites applications for a fully-funded PhD position focusing on ‘AOP Approaches to Link Chemical Exposures to Adverse Outcomes.’ The research, conducted in collaboration with the Environmental Risk Assessment Team and the Aquatic Ecology and Water Quality group, aims to improve risk assessment methods related to species sensitivity towards chemicals. The project involves developing an assessment framework to understand the mechanisms causing adverse effects and identifying molecular events leading to species-specific sensitivity.

PhD Position: AOP Approaches to Link Chemical Exposures to Adverse Outcomes

Location: Wageningen University, Toxicology department, Wageningen, Netherlands.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • MSc degree in environmental sciences, molecular life sciences, biology, or related area.
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary and international teams.
  • Proficiency in English (C1 level).
  • Experience with ecotoxicological models and biostatistical approaches is an advantage.

Description: The PhD candidate will co-develop an assessment framework to understand mechanisms causing adverse effects of chemicals, emphasizing a mechanistic approach for increased understanding and prediction of toxicity. Specific objectives include collecting and curating mode of action data, identifying data gaps, performing toxicodynamic experiments, and contributing to extrapolating sensitivity across species. The project encourages collaboration within Wageningen University & Research and contributes to the Wageningen Biodiversity Initiative.
