Postdoctoral Researcher in Phage Biology: The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Systems Virology research group, led by Dr. Andrea Fossati. The research focuses on bacterial antiphage systems, employing molecular and computational analyses to understand 3D genome regulation. The position is part of the ERC Starting grant project “3D-REG – Shedding light on three-dimensional gene regulation.”

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, or computational biology.
  • Demonstrated expertise in forward and reverse genetic screens, CRISPRi, molecular cloning, basic biochemistry, and phage recombineering.
  • Knowledge of virology/phage biology techniques.
  • Experience with Python/R/bash/unix is desirable.
  • Prior experience with Mycobacteria and Pseudomonas is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience in proteomics sample preparation or data analysis is a plus.

Job Description:

  • Conduct research on bacterial antiphage systems using genetic engineering.
  • Apply and develop novel genetic screenings (based on CRISPRi) to characterize phage genes influencing clinical efficacy against bacterial pathogens.
  • Characterize genes in their molecular context using interaction proteomics.
  • Engineer ‘super-phages’ displaying increased efficacy against clinical isolates.
  • Play a prominent role in project design and management, oversee data generation, conduct analyses, and provide insightful interpretations.
  • Collaborate with team members and other research groups at KI/SciLifeLab.
  • Disseminate scientific findings through research papers, conference participation, and effective communication with colleagues.
