CRUK Research Fellow, University of Southampton, UK

Postdoctoral Position in UK United Kingdom

CRUK Research Fellow: The University of Southampton is seeking a highly motivated and capable postdoctoral researcher to join the cancer immunoprevention laboratory led by Dr Matthew Rose-Zerilli. This full-time fixed-term position, supported by Cancer Research UK and the local Centre for Cancer Immunology Talent Fund, involves a translational research project integrating single-cell transcriptomics, cellular biology, immunology, and 3D tissue mucosoid modelling to explore the potential of harnessing human eosinophils for cancer immunoprevention.

Designation: Postdoctoral Researcher

Research Area: Cancer Immunoprevention

Location: Southampton General Hospital

Eligibility/Qualification: The ideal candidate should possess a PhD in a relevant area, along with a BSc/MSc in a related life science subject (e.g., cell biology/immunology). A background or strong interest in innate immunity and tumorigenesis is beneficial.

Job Description: The post holder will be involved in a collaborative project, working alongside researchers from Clinical and Experimental Sciences, UHS, and Oxford University. The focus is on understanding the molecular mechanisms behind the negative association between eosinophilia and malignant transformation in the distal esophagus. The project is funded until 30/04/2026, with possibilities for extension.

The candidate is expected to have robust skills in molecular biology techniques, experience in innate immune cell culture, primary tissue explants, flow cytometry, and 3D cell culture/organoid techniques. Desirable skills include proficiency in confocal microscopy, experience with the programming language R, and a willingness to learn droplet-based single-cell transcriptomics. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential. The candidate should demonstrate a successful track record in research and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
