PhD Scholarship in Biofuel Production: The University of Girona invites applications for a PhD candidate position in carbon dioxide valorisation for aviation biofuel production. Scholarship Description: The PhD candidate will contribute to the “ALGAESOL” project funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe programme, led by NORCE in Norway. The research involves the design, operation, and maintenance of a pilot plant for microalgae cultivation to produce aviation biofuel. It combines bioelectrochemical processes for carbon dioxide conversion into acetate and photosynthesis.

Eligibility: Applicants must have completed undergraduate and master’s studies in the relevant fields with a minimum of 300 credits. Fluency in spoken and written English is required, along with initiative, teamwork skills, and preferably previous experience with bioelectrochemical systems and/or microalgae. Applicants willing and eligible to apply for a competitive doctoral scholarship (e.g., Joan Oró Grants) will be valued.

What we can offer you:

  • 3-year contract (annual renewal from the first year).

  • Gross monthly salary of €1,470 (approx).
