PhD Position in Structural Biology of Phages at University of Lausanne (UNIL)
Study Area: Structural Biology of Phages
Location: University of Lausanne, Switzerland
Eligibility/Qualification: Prospective candidates should possess:
- A Master’s degree or equivalent in molecular biology, structural biology, cell biology, microbiology, or biophysics.
- Research experience in phage biology or cryo-electron microscopy is encouraged.
- Motivation to explore how phages modify bacterial surfaces and the infection cycle.
- Curiosity for science, a good command of English, and a high personal motivation to excel in research.
- Experience with growing and propagating phages (required).
- Experience with cryo-electron microscopy (beneficial but not required).
Description: The PhD project focuses on using cryo-electron microscopy to visualize phages in native conditions at high-resolution under different genetic backgrounds. The successful candidate will work on understanding how bacteriophages modify bacterial surfaces and interact with host cell envelopes. The Department of Fundamental Microbiology offers a collaborative and multidisciplinary scientific environment with access to advanced imaging facilities.
What the Position Offers:
- A stimulating environment in a young international research group.
- Opportunities for professional training.
- Involvement in cutting-edge research combining cryo-electron microscopy, experimental cell biology techniques, and image processing.
- Opportunities for personal research (at least 80% of working time) and potential teaching responsibilities.
