PhD Position in Mechanobiology, University of Tübingen, Germany

Postdoctoral Researcher - Germany

PhD Position in Mechanobiology: The Bastounis lab at the University of Tübingen invites applications for a PhD position (E13 TV-L, 65%) funded by a DFG project. This position focuses on elucidating the mechanobiological processes underlying vascular endothelial cell infection by the food-borne intracellular bacterial pathogen Listeria monocytogenes. The successful candidate will explore the impact of shear stresses and extracellular matrix stiffness on bacterial adhesion, uptake, and dissemination through endothelial cells.

PhD Position in Mechanobiology of Vascular Infections

Study Area: Mechanobiology, Microbiology, Biomechanics

Location: University of Tübingen, Tübingen, Germany

Eligibility/Qualification: The ideal candidate should hold a degree demonstrating interdisciplinary expertise in life and engineering sciences. While familiarity with host-pathogen interactions, cell biology, and microscopy is advantageous, proficiency in basic computer programming (e.g., MATLAB, Python) and/or image processing is essential. Excellent communication, initiative, and teamwork skills are crucial. Women scientists and international researchers are encouraged to apply, and candidates with disabilities will receive preferential consideration.

Description: This PhD project aims to investigate how shear stresses and extracellular matrix stiffness influence the interaction between vascular endothelial cells and Listeria monocytogenes. Using advanced techniques, the candidate will explore the mechanotransduction pathways underlying bacterial adhesion, uptake, and spread within endothelial cells. The project offers a stimulating work environment with access to state-of-the-art infrastructure and interdisciplinary collaboration opportunities in microbiology, microscopy, cell biology, and biomechanics.

How to Apply: Interested candidates should email applications, including a short cover/motivation letter, CV/biosketch, diploma(s), and two references, to Effie Bastounis at effie.bastounis@uni-tuebingen.de. For further information, visit the lab’s website: Bastounis Lab – University of Tübingen.

Last Date: Applications should be submitted via email to effie.bastounis@uni-tuebingen.de before the earliest starting date of June 1, 2024. Don’t miss this opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in mechanobiology and vascular infections!
