PhD in Supramolecular Chemical Biology, IBMM, France

PhD Open Position in Organic Chemistry, CNRS, France

PhD in Supramolecular Chemical Biology: Embark on a groundbreaking journey with the SMAIT project (“Smart nanoparticles delivering siRNA to treat gastrointestinal stromal Tumors”) funded by the Interdisciplinary & In-Lab Graduate Program of Université de Montpellier. Two mirror PhD positions are available starting in 2024: one in Chemistry at IBMM (UMRS247) and one in Biology at PhyMedExp (UMR9214).

Summary Table:

  • Duration: 2024-2027
  • Institution: Institut des Biomolécules Max Mousseron (IBMM)
  • Location: Montpellier, France
  • Project Name: SMAIT (“Smart nanoparticles delivering siRNA to treat gastrointestinal stromal Tumors”)
  • Positions Available: 2 (1 in Chemistry, 1 in Biology)
  • Starting Date: October 2024 (flexible)
  • Salary: Approx. €2100/month
  • Contact: Dr. Sébastien Ulrich (sebastien.ulrich@cnrs.fr)
  • Application Deadline: 15 April 2024, 2:00 pm

Study Area: The project focuses on Supramolecular Chemical Biology, aiming to design smart vectors of nucleic acids that degrade within cells at the appropriate place and time.

Scholarship Description: This PhD project builds upon recent advancements in creating smart pH-sensitive peptide conjugates as vectors of siRNA. The candidate will work on engineering multi-dynamic peptide-based conjugates with improved sensitivity and controlled degradation. Tasks include synthesis of modified peptides, determination of degradation kinetics, and in vitro evaluation of siRNA complexation and release. Collaboration with a mirror PhD in biology enriches this interdisciplinary endeavor.

Eligibility: Candidates should hold a recent graduate degree (M.Sc. or equivalent) with strong expertise in bioorganic chemistry. They should demonstrate interest in interdisciplinary research, autonomy, initiative, and teamwork. Fluency in French is advantageous but not mandatory.

Required Documents: Interested applicants must submit:

  1. A signed and dated cover letter
  2. Curriculum vitae/resume
  3. Transcripts of B.Sc., M.Sc., and any additional relevant degrees, including rankings

How to Apply: Applications for the SMAIT project should be emailed to idi-team@umontpellier.fr before the deadline on 15 April 2024, 2:00 pm.

Last Date: 15 April 2024, 2:00 pm
