Eligibility/Qualification

  • Master’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Agriculture Engineering (not agronomy), Biosystems Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Basic knowledge of sensing technologies, measurement systems, machine learning, and data fusion.
  • Proficiency in engineering software and modelling languages (e.g., MATLAB, LabVIEW, AutoCAD, C++).
  • Excellent project and time management skills.
  • High level of English proficiency.
  • Ability to work in interdisciplinary and dynamic research environments.

Description

Ghent University invites applications for a 4-year PhD fellowship within the Precision Soil and Crop Engineering Group. The PhD candidate will engage in the WHEATWATCHER project, aimed at developing an integrated system to monitor soil nutrients and contaminants affecting wheat. The project will assist farmers, mill owners, and policymakers in ensuring safe food production. Responsibilities include designing and optimizing soil and crop sensing platforms, supervising MSc students, and contributing to high-quality publications.
