Research Associate at UEU: The University of Leicester Ulverscroft Eye Unit (UEU) is excited to announce an opening for a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) position. This role focuses on exploring the potential of retinal image-derived phenotypes in disease prediction and modelling. The position is fixed-term until 28 February 2027 and offers a collaborative and state-of-the-art research environment.

Research Area:
The primary research areas include genome-wide and phenome-wide association studies, deep learning applications to imaging datasets, and potentially wet-lab experiments involving CRISPR-Cas9 mutagenesis and retinal disease modelling.
Location: Leicester
Eligibility/Qualification:
- Strong background in bioinformatics, computational biology, or related field.
- Experience in genetic data analysis and statistical genetics methodologies (GWAS, PheWAS).
- Proficiency in statistical programming languages (e.g., R, Python).
- Good understanding of genetic and molecular biology concepts.
- Knowledge of CRISPR-Cas9 technology and familiarity with AI and machine learning techniques applied to biological datasets is advantageous.
- Creative, ambitious, and excellent communication skills.
Job Description:
The PDRA will be responsible for:
- Co-developing and carrying out an independent original research programme.
- Managing large-scale genotype and phenotype datasets.
- Supervising clinical studies and supporting research staff and students.
- Engaging in multidisciplinary projects, bridging computational analysis and experimental biology.
- Utilizing state-of-the-art research facilities and contributing to the field of disease prediction and modelling through retinal image analysis.
