Postdoc in Germany

PhD Student at University of Osnabrück: The HOLTHUIS LAB invites applications for a PhD student position focused on “Interrogating plasma membrane permeabilization and repair at nanoscale.” This research will explore novel supramolecular materials for enhancing the cytosolic delivery of therapeutic peptides and investigate cellular responses to membrane disruptions.

Designation: PhD Student (f/m/d)

Research Area: Plasma Membrane Permeabilization and Repair, Nanotechnology, Lipid Cell Biology, Super-resolution Live Cell Imaging

Location: University of Osnabrück, Osnabrück, Germany

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Completed M.Sc. degree in Biology, (Bio)Chemistry, or Biophysics.
  • Strong background in assay development and live cell microscopy.
  • Keen interest in interdisciplinary research.
  • Team-oriented with a willingness to engage in multilateral research collaborations.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.

Job Description: The successful candidate will join the DFG-funded Research Training Group RTG-2900 “nanomaterials@biomembranes.” The project aims to:

  • Investigate the ability of novel supramolecular materials to facilitate plasma membrane passage of peptide cargos.
  • Employ super-resolution live cell imaging to study membrane repair mechanisms at nanoscale.
  • Contribute to the development of new strategies for the cytosolic delivery of polar therapeutics.
  • Elucidate cellular mechanisms involving Ca2+-activated lipid scramblases in membrane repair.

The candidate will benefit from:

  • A cutting-edge research project at the intersection of lipid cell biology, nanotechnology, and advanced imaging techniques.
  • Access to state-of-the-art infrastructure at CellNanOS.
  • Integration into a structured PhD and qualification program.
  • Interdisciplinary supervision and collaboration in an international research team.

How to Apply: Interested candidates should submit an informative letter of motivation, CV, certificates (BA/MA including Transcripts of Records), and contact details of two academic referees. All application materials should be compiled into a single PDF document and sent via email to Prof. Dr. Joost Holthuis at holthuis@uos.de.

Last Date for Apply: June 30th, 2024

Conditions of Employment:

  • The position is available immediately and fixed for a period of 3 years.
