Postdoc Position on Microclimate Ecology: The Division of Ecology, Evolution and Biodiversity Conservation at KU Leuven (Belgium) is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the MICROMICS project. This project focuses on microclimate- and genomics-informed distribution modelling to improve predictions of species’ range dynamics and extinction risk under environmental change.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in Biology, Bioscience Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or related fields (completed or to be obtained by the start date)
  • Strong background in evolutionary biology and/or genetics
  • Competitive publication record
  • Excellent academic writing skills
  • Passion for nature and biodiversity
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as R or Python
  • Fluency in English (written and oral)
  • Collaborative and team-oriented with good communication skills

Job Description:
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with two PhD students on the MICROMICS project, focusing on the role of microclimate in shaping adaptive evolution and plant dispersal dynamics. This involves using extensive field and genetic data to explore relationships between genetic variation and microclimate. The position is supervised by Prof. Hanne De Kort and Prof. Koenraad Van Meerbeek. The role includes the expectation of several first-author publications in respected journals and the opportunity to prepare a postdoctoral fellowship proposal in conservation genomics.
