Postdoc (f/m/d) for the Device Development of the Electrochemical Reduction of CO2 and Scale Up Electrolyzer

Location: Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, Germany

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in Electrochemistry, Material Science, or related fields with excellent grades.
  • Extensive experience in electrochemistry (OER, HER, CO2RR), electrolyzer construction (PEM, AEM, flow cell, MEA).
  • Strong background in catalyst synthesis and thin-film fabrication.
  • Skilled in characterization techniques (GC, GC-MS, HPLC, NMR, IR, Raman, etc.).
  • Proficiency in semiconductor technology and solar cell characterization methods.
  • Excellent English communication skills.
  • Experienced in collaborative projects with ability to work independently and in a team.

Job Description:

  • Perform research on the electrochemical characterization of catalysts for CO2 reduction reactions (CO2RR) using solar energy.
  • Develop silver and copper-based electrocatalysts suitable for industrial applications.
  • Investigate thin-film catalysts for converting CO2 to CO or CH3OH.
  • Construct and operate electrolyzers (GDE, flow cell, MEA) coupled with photovoltaic modules at industrial current densities.
  • Analyze products with GC, GC-MS, HPLC, NMR, etc.
  • Collaborate with external partners, supervise projects, write scientific papers, and present findings at various forums.
  • Co-supervise bachelor, master, and PhD students.
