Aarhus University invites applications for a PhD fellowship within the Nanoscience program, focusing on the research project “Developing Water Splitting Electrodes from Surface Science Insight” under the guidance of Professor Jeppe V. Lauritsen at the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO).

Research Area and Project Description:
The successful candidate will work on investigating the surface chemical composition of doped Ni-based electrodes using near-ambient pressure studies (NAP-XPS) and STM studies. The goal is to enhance electrocatalytic properties for water splitting through a combination of structural properties and chemical doping effects.

Eligibility/Qualifications:

  • Candidates with a recent master’s degree or 4 years of studies in nanoscience, materials science, chemistry, or physics are qualified.
  • Excellent academic record with a background in surface science, fundamental electrocatalysis studies, or synchrotron studies will be advantageous.

Job Description:

  • Conduct research on surface science and catalytic activity of electrodes.
  • Utilize advanced techniques like scanning probe microscopy and photoemission spectroscopy.
  • Collaborate with industry partners on large-scale electrolyzer implementation projects.
