Eligibility/Qualification:
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or related field
- PhD awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining
- Experience in CFD, reacting flows, combustion, and multi-mode heat transfer including radiation
- Independent problem solver with strong communication skills
- Demonstrated record of publishing
- Proficiency in Python programming
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding of fire dynamics
- Knowledge of material decomposition kinetics and using data to generate kinetic parameters
- Experience with Fire Dynamics Simulator software and Open PNM
- Proficiency in machine learning model development
- Experience with conducting experiments
Job Description:
The postdoctoral position involves developing new models to expand the physics in the open-source pore network model Open-PNM to predict reacting flows and their associated physics. This includes creating new subroutines and models based on physics and machine learning algorithms. The successful candidate will be engaged in simulations of wildland fire applications and will contribute to advancing the understanding of fire behavior and its impact on structures.
