PhD Studentship Opportunity in Biology at Örebro University, Sweden

Study in Sweden

PhD Studentship Opportunity in Biology: Örebro University is offering a doctoral studentship in Biology, focusing on the intricate molecular mechanisms plants use to perceive and respond to light. This position is situated at the multidisciplinary Örebro Life Science Centre, renowned for its cutting-edge research on living systems.

Designation:
Doctoral Student in Biology

Research Area:
The research project will explore the molecular mechanisms underlying plant perception and integration of multiple light signals. Utilizing the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana and commercial crops like tomato, the research involves genetic, molecular, genomic, and physiological approaches to understand plant responses to UV radiation and visible light.

Location:
Örebro University, School of Science and Technology, Örebro Life Science Centre, Sweden

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Demonstrated knowledge in plant physiology and molecular biology.
  • Advantageous: Expertise in plant photobiology and proficiency in molecular and protein biochemistry techniques.
  • Must hold a Bachelor’s degree with at least 120 credits in biology and an additional 30 credits on the second cycle, including an independent project.
  • Fluency in English, both written and oral, is required.

Job Description:

  • Conduct factorial experiments to evaluate plant responses to UV and visible light.
  • Investigate how UV light in combination with other light qualities affects plant transcriptomes.
  • Identify new molecular players in plant responses to these light signals.
  • Full-time studentship for four years, possibly extending to a doctoral degree with additional funding.

How to Apply:
Applications are to be submitted online. Applicants must include:

  • Application form for admission to research studies
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Bachelor’s and Master’s degree certificates and official transcripts
  • Independent project (degree project)
  • Other relevant certificates verifying eligibility
  • All documents should be in Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, or English. Translations by an authorized translator are required for other languages.
