PhD Scholarship in Cancer-Coagulation Crosstalk: We are pleased to offer a fully funded PhD scholarship for a talented and enthusiastic researcher to join an exciting cross-disciplinary project investigating the interplay between blood coagulation and cancer cell biology. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to explore the role of dysregulated coagulation pathways in contributing to the pathobiology of multiple myeloma, under the supervision of Dr. Jamie O’Sullivan at the Irish Centre for Vascular Biology in the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences, RCSI.

Location: Irish Centre for Vascular Biology, School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences, RCSI, Ireland

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Honours degree in the area of biological sciences or related subject
  • MSc in the areas of cancer biology/haematology/immunology/tissue engineering (strongly encouraged to apply)
  • Excellent communication skills in written and oral English. Non-native English speakers are expected to have at least 6.5 in IELTS (academic) or equivalent

Desirable Specification:

  • Previous lab experience would be an advantage
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good time-management and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to work to deadlines

Job Description:
The successful applicant will be involved in a highly collaborative and productive research project incorporating clinical samples, in vitro basic scientific research, and preclinical models to determine if targeting specific blood coagulation factors can be used as novel anti-metastatic treatments for multiple myeloma. The research project will span four years and offer a unique opportunity to contribute to the understanding of the crosstalk between tumor cells and the coagulation system in cancer progression.
