This position will involve conducting groundbreaking research at the interface of neuroscience and immunology, focusing on understanding the innate immune pathways contributing to neuroinflammatory changes in Alzheimer’s disease.
DZNE PhD Scholarship Opportunity in Neuroimmunology Research
Designation: PhD Student (f/m/x) in the Field of Neuroimmunology
Research Area: The research focuses on unraveling the innate immune pathways mediating neuroinflammatory changes in Alzheimer’s disease, with a specific emphasis on how microglia-mediated neuroinflammation is influenced by immune signaling, metabolic changes, and the impact of a western diet.
Location: Bonn, Germany
Eligibility/Qualification:
- A Master of Science (MSc) degree in Immunology, Neuroscience, Biology, or a related field.
- Previous experience in experimental animal work, immunology, neuroscience, or cell metabolism research would be advantageous.
- FELASA accreditation is a strong plus.
- Hands-on experience in cell culture and biochemistry techniques.
- Fluency in English for communication, writing, and presentation of scientific data.
- Enthusiasm for exploring and innovating with new techniques.
- Willingness to work in a diverse and interdisciplinary team of international scientists.
Job Description:
The successful applicant will conduct cell culture work using murine and human cells, immune activation assays, and state-of-the-art laboratory techniques such as metabolic assays, flow cytometry, fluorescence imaging, RNA sequencing, and biochemical techniques. They will evaluate the full impact of a western diet on microglial activity using diet treatments, pharmacological inhibition, and genetic depletion approaches across in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro settings.
