Scholarship Description:
The successful candidate will join a vibrant academic environment at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, one of Germany’s largest universities. The research will be conducted under the joint supervision of Dr. Oscar Palomino (JGU Mainz), Dr. Christina Francisca Vogelaar, and Prof. Dr. Frauke Zipp (UMC Mainz). The primary objective is to develop new chemical entities that modulate neuroinflammatory processes, with the ultimate goal of discovering new neuroprotective drugs. The position offers a FTN-PhD Stipendium of €2,030 per month, a job ticket for the Rhine-Main area, and access to extensive HR development resources.


Eligibility:
Candidates must hold an M.Sc. degree in Chemistry, Interdisciplinary Natural Sciences, Physics, or a related field. Eligibility criteria also include a preference for candidates with computational experience, as well as basic knowledge in areas such as:

  • Drug discovery and structure-based design
  • Simulations of biomolecules through molecular dynamics or Monte Carlo techniques
  • Machine learning/generative modeling in chemistry

English language proficiency at a B2 level (CEFR) is required; German is beneficial but not mandatory. The university encourages applications from diverse backgrounds and is particularly keen to increase the number of women in research and teaching.
