PhD Scholarship in Next-Generation Batteries: Uppsala University’s Department of Chemistry – Ångström Laboratory is offering a fully-funded PhD scholarship as part of the PRISMAS programme, in collaboration with MAX IV Laboratory, to conduct cutting-edge research in the field of operando X-ray analysis of next-generation batteries. The successful candidate will work within the Ångström Advanced Battery Centre (ÅABC) and participate in the PRISMAS network, co-funded by the Horizon Europe MSCA COFUND Programme.

PhD Scholarship in Operando X-ray Analysis of Next-Generation Batteries

Designation: PhD Student in Operando X-ray Analysis of Next-Generation Batteries

Research Area: Operando X-ray analysis of Prussian blue analogue (PBA)-based sustainable aqueous batteries, as well as non-aqueous Li/Na-ion batteries during electrochemical cycling.

Location: Uppsala, Sweden, with a secondment opportunity at MAX IV Laboratory in Lund, Sweden.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Candidates must have a second-cycle qualification or completed at least 240 credits in higher education, with at least 60 credits at Master’s level.
  • Proficiency in English, both orally and in writing, is essential.
  • Must comply with the MSCA COFUND programme’s mobility rule regarding residency in Sweden.

Job Description:

  • The selected candidate will primarily devote themselves to their research studies, participating in the research project and PhD courses.
  • Research activities will involve independently running projects within a specific subject, conducting combined operando X-ray diffraction and X-ray absorption spectroscopy on various battery systems, and analyzing the significant amount of generated data using python-based analysis pipelines.
  • Collaboration with national and international partners, attendance of international conferences, and participation in specialized courses are integral parts of the role.
