PhD Position in Quantum Chemistry: The Quantum Chemistry Group at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) in Tarragona, Spain, is offering a four-year PhD scholarship funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. The research project, led by ICREA research professor Coen de Graaf, focuses on “Non-Orthogonal Configuration Interaction: Code Development and Applications,” aiming for the accurate theoretical description of intra- and intermolecular energy and electron transfer.
Designation:
PhD Researcher
Research Area:
Quantum Chemistry, Theoretical Chemistry, Computational Chemistry, Non-Orthogonal Configuration Interaction (NOCI), Energy Transfer, Electron Transfer.
Location:
Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV), Tarragona, Spain
Eligibility/Qualification:
- A strong background in (Theoretical) Chemistry or Physics.
- Recently graduated Master of Science in a research area closely related to the project.
- Coding experience and familiarity with high-performance computing are advantageous.
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is required.
Job Description:
The PhD candidate will be involved in both the development of the GronOR program package, which aims for a massively parallel and GPU-accelerated code for NOCI, and its applications. Research topics include singlet fission, electron and hole transport properties, and colossal magnetoresistance, among others. The Quantum Chemistry Group (QCG) at URV has a rich history of research focusing on the electronic structure and properties of complex systems, including catalytic reaction mechanisms, carbon nanostructures, and polyoxometalates. The project includes a potential three-month research stay at one of the collaborating institutions, such as the University of Groningen (Netherlands), Oak Ridge National Laboratories (USA), or the University of Barcelona (Spain).
