Designation: PhD Candidate (M/F/D): Analysis of Microscopic BIOMedical Images (AMBIOM)

Research Area: Microscopic biomedical image analysis, machine learning, computer vision, and deep learning

Location: Dortmund, Germany

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Masters, Diploma, or equivalent degree in IT, computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, data science, biomedical engineering, or relevant scientific field
  • Solid background in machine learning
  • Extensive experience in computer vision or image analysis
  • Proficiency in deep learning packages, particularly PyTorch
  • Familiarity with large foundation models and continuous integration and development (GitHub Actions)
  • Proactive, independent, and solution-oriented work ethic
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Publications in top-tier computer vision conferences or journals is a plus
  • Experience with open-source software development is a plus

Job Description:

  • Development of new machine learning algorithms for microscopy image analysis
  • Integration of large foundation models into microscopy image analysis and analytical data analysis workflows
  • Implementation of AI-based microscopy image analysis software as Python packages and napari plugins
  • Development of unit-testing tools for bioimaging AI software
  • Reporting findings and methods in conference and journal papers
  • Conducting software demos and tutorials at national and international workshops
