International CNRS-Funded PhD Scholarship, France

PhD Open Position in Organic Chemistry, CNRS, France

International CNRS-Funded PhD Scholarship: The Schnorrer and Michelot Groups are offering a prestigious international CNRS-funded PhD scholarship to investigate the molecular mechanisms governing the shift of actin isoform expression during muscle development and its impact on sarcomere assembly and maturation in Drosophila.

International CNRS-Funded PhD Scholarship in Muscle Development and Actin Isoforms

Designation: PhD Position

Research Area: Muscle Biology, Actin Isoforms, Sarcomere Assembly, Molecular Mechanisms

Location: Marseille and Singapore

Eligibility/Qualification: Ideal candidates are biologists, biochemists, physicists, chemists, or engineers with a keen interest in quantitative biology. Applicants should be ambitious, curious, open to learning novel techniques, and excited about the opportunity to pursue a doctorate across two different countries, benefiting from diverse cultures and expertise.

Job Description:

  • Characterize the functional differences between Drosophila muscle and nonmuscle actin isoforms through CRISPR-based knock-in swaps of their coding regions and analyze resulting muscle phenotypes by confocal microscopy.
  • Manipulate the temporal dynamics of selected actin regulators to test their actin isoform specificity during sarcomere assembly in vivo.
  • Characterize the biochemical properties of different actin isoforms and their interactions with selected actin-binding proteins in vitro using single filament polymerization and TIRF microscopy.

How to Apply: Interested candidates should apply online by October 7th, 2024, via the following link: PhD Position Application. Applicants are required to upload their CV, academic transcripts in a single document, a personal statement outlining their professional goals and motivation for joining the labs, and a brief summary of past internships (max. 200 words per internship). Additionally, candidates should provide the contact details of two references.
