Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A doctoral degree or its equivalent
  • Experience in the field of phage biology and phage engineering with a focus on augmentation of phage efficacy using genetic engineering
  • Expertise in forward and reverse genetic screens, CRISPRi, molecular cloning, basic biochemistry, phage recombineering, and virology/phage biology techniques
  • Knowledge of Python/R/bash/unix is a plus

Job Description:
As a member of the Systems Virology research group, you will contribute to the investigation of bacterial immune systems composition and mechanism, employing a combination of bulk NGS technologies and high-throughput interaction proteomics approaches. Key responsibilities include:

  • Application and development of novel genetic screenings (based on CRISPRi) to characterize phage genes influencing clinical efficacy against bacterial pathogens
  • Characterization of phage genes in their molecular context using interaction proteomics
  • Engineering ‘super-phages’ displaying increased efficacy against clinical isolates
  • Project design and management, data generation, analysis, and interpretation
  • Collaboration with fellow team members, other groups at KI/SciLifeLab
  • Dissemination of scientific findings through authorship of research papers, participation in scientific conferences, and effective communication with colleagues
