Postdoctoral Position in USA

Postdoctoral Researcher in RNA Biochemistry: The DasGupta Laboratory at the University of Notre Dame’s Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our young and dynamic team. We focus on reconstructing the origins of RNA-based cellular life through innovative approaches, including RNA evolution, structural biology, RNA enzymology, and synthetic cell research. This position offers an opportunity to explore the biochemical limits of primordial life, understand RNA evolution, and contribute to frontier research in RNA biology.

Designation:
Postdoctoral Researcher

Research Area:
RNA Biochemistry, Origins of Life, RNA Evolution, Structural Biology, Synthetic Cell Research

Location:
University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana, USA

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
  • Nucleic acid chemistry and biochemistry (with a preference for RNA experience).
  • In vitro selection/Directed evolution of nucleic acids.
  • X-ray crystallography.
  • Synthetic cell/Protocell work.
  • Strong publication record demonstrating relevant technical skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Job Description:
As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will join the DasGupta Laboratory to explore the RNA World through laboratory evolution, working on the resurrection and study of RNA enzymes (ribozymes) and their roles in early life. The position involves:

  • Conducting cutting-edge research in RNA biochemistry to understand the origins of life and the mechanisms of RNA evolution.
  • Developing RNA-based tools to address key questions in contemporary RNA biology.
  • Collaborating with lab members on innovative research, participating in discussions, and attending events such as the Chicagoland RNA club and University of Chicago Center for the Origins of Life.
  • Mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and receiving support for your career development and professional goals.

You will be part of a supportive and collaborative environment that encourages creative thinking and problem-solving.

How to Apply:
Interested candidates should email Dr. Saurja DasGupta at sdasgupta@nd.edu with the following:
