Post-Doctoral Position in Catalysts, COBRA Laboratory, Normandy, France

Postdoc in France

Post-Doctoral Position in Catalysts: A 20-month post-doctoral position, starting in February 2025, is available in the GrefOrgCat project, focused on developing chemically modified carbon electrodes for more efficient and enantioselective chiral electrochemical reactions. This research will explore covalent grafting of chiral organocatalysts onto carbon electrodes to enhance the selectivity and reactivity of electrochemical enantioselective reactions, particularly in aldehyde α-functionalization.

Post-Doctoral Position in Catalysts Grafting on Carbon Electrodes for Chiral Electrochemical Reactions (GrefOrgCat)

Designation:
Post-Doctoral Researcher

Research Area:
Electrosynthesis, Catalysts Grafting, Organic Chemistry, Chiral Reactions

Location:
e-CatCH group (Heterocycles team), COBRA Laboratory, near Rouen, Normandy, France

Eligibility/Qualification:
The ideal candidate should hold a Ph.D. in organic chemistry with a strong background in product characterization. Additional expertise in catalysis, electrosynthesis, or covalent grafting of carbon surfaces is highly desirable.

Job Description:
The post-doctoral researcher will join the GrefOrgCat project, which aims to address challenges in electrosynthesis, specifically mass transfer issues, by developing modified carbon electrodes with grafted chiral organocatalysts. Key responsibilities include:

  • Studying and applying an electrochemical grafting strategy to attach linkers onto carbon electrodes through covalent bonding.
  • Functionalizing these linkers with organocatalysts for enantioselective chemical reactions at the electrode surface.
  • Evaluating the reactivity and selectivity of the modified electrodes in two enantioselective aldehyde α-functionalization reactions through radical coupling.

This role is part of a larger effort within the e-CatCH group, known for its expertise in organocatalysis and asymmetric synthesis, now expanding into electrosynthesis.

How to Apply:
Applicants should submit:

  • A CV
  • A cover letter
  • Two recommendation letters or contact information for references

Applications should be sent to Dr. Sylvain Oudeyer (sylvain.oudeyer@univ-rouen.fr) and Dr. Vincent Levacher (vincent.levacher@insa-rouen.fr).

Last Date for Apply:
Applications are open until the position is filled, with a planned start date in February 2025.

Additional Information:
This post-doctoral position is funded by the Normandy region and co-funded by the EU (ERFD). The gross monthly salary will be approximately €2500-3000.
