Post-Doctoral Position on Data Integration: The Forest Science and Technology Centre of Catalonia (CTFC), a CERCA centre and government-accredited TECNIO agent, invites applications for a post-doctoral position to contribute to the cutting-edge TABMON project. The project focuses on acoustic bird monitoring across Europe, aiming to integrate technology into large-scale biodiversity monitoring. The selected candidate will work in collaboration with the Catalan Ornithological Institute (ICO) and international bioacoustics monitoring networks.

Eligibility/Qualification:

Basic Requirements:

  1. PhD in a relevant field such as Ecology, Conservation Biology, Bioacoustics, Computational Science, or Environmental Science.
  2. Strong interdisciplinary foundation in ecology, data management, and technology.
  3. Proven experience in biodiversity monitoring methods and acoustic monitoring techniques, preferably for birds.
  4. Expertise with autonomous recording units, audio processing tools, and AI/ML algorithms (e.g., BirdNET, Kaleidoscope).
  5. Proficiency in managing large-scale ecological datasets, including long-term and transnational data.
  6. Expertise in statistical modelling for species distribution, population dynamics, or migration phenology.

Desirable Requirements:

  1. Proven capacity to lead research work and collaborate with teams.
  2. Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, R) for data analysis and visualization.
  3. Familiarity with bioacoustic tools, AI/ML pipelines, and deployment of field recording units.

  3. Flexibility, adaptability, and a proactive approach.
  4. Availability for occasional travel.

Job Description:

The post-doctoral researcher will:

  1. Develop and standardize protocols to integrate acoustic bird monitoring data into EU-wide platforms.
  2. Design workflows to harmonize acoustic and traditional monitoring datasets.
  3. Lead the creation of Essential Biodiversity Variable (EBV) showcases.
  4. Collaborate with partners to refine workflows, reporting standards, and ensure practical relevance.
  5. Coordinate workshops and meetings while acting as CTFC’s liaison.
  6. Produce high-quality scientific publications and policy reports.
