SMASH COFUND Fellowship: The SMASH (SMASH SMASH CALL 4 SMASH) program is seeking highly motivated postdoctoral researchers to join our intersectoral career-development training initiative co-funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions COFUND program. This program offers an exciting opportunity to develop cutting-edge machine learning applications in various scientific fields. We encourage applicants from around the world who are interested in addressing essential challenges in science and humanities.

Title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow – SMASH COFUND Program

Designation: Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Research Area: Candidates are invited to propose ambitious research projects in one of the following key areas:

  1. Machine Learning for Scientific Applications
  2. Machine Learning for Particle Physics, Astrophysics, and Cosmology
  3. Computing for Human and Animal Communication
  4. Machine Learning in Climate Research
  5. Personalised Medicine and Life Sciences

Location: Slovenia (hosted by one of the following institutions):

  • University of Nova Gorica
  • University of Ljubljana
  • Jožef Stefan Institute
  • Institute of Information Science
  • Slovenian Environment Agency

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Holders of a PhD degree in a relevant field, of any nationality.
  • Must comply with the MSCA-COFUND mobility rule (no more than 12 months residence or main activity in Slovenia within the three years before the call deadline).
  • Researchers who have successfully defended their doctoral thesis but have not yet been formally awarded their doctorate are also eligible.
  • Commitment to the values of diversity and inclusion is essential.

Job Description:
Selected candidates will be employed on a 2-year full-time contract with attractive compensation and conditions. Responsibilities include:

  • Designing and proposing innovative research projects using cutting-edge machine learning or artificial intelligence techniques.
  • Collaborating with leading researchers from various disciplines to address significant scientific and societal challenges.
  • Participating in a personalized training program and career mentoring by leading academic and industry professionals.
  • Engaging in interdisciplinary interactions and contributing to the research community.

  1. Identify a key research area and potential supervisor(s) from the SMASH website.
  2. Develop a research project proposal in collaboration with the selected supervisor(s) who will provide a Letter of Support.
  3. Register on the SMASH online application platform and carefully follow the Guide for Applicants.
  4. Compile and upload all required documents, including the Letter of Support, on the application platform.
  5. Submit the application before the deadline.
