Postdoctoral Fellowship in Intestinal Mucosal Immunology: Umeå University’s Department of Molecular Biology is seeking a dedicated and motivated postdoctoral fellow for a two-year fellowship focused on intestinal mucosal immunology. The successful candidate will contribute to pioneering research aimed at understanding the interplay between gut microbiota and mucus function related to intestinal diseases.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Doctorate in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Immunology, or related fields.
  • Candidates should ideally have completed their doctoral degree no more than three years before the application deadline.
  • Special circumstances (e.g., illness, parental leave) may be considered for those with degrees obtained earlier.
  • Very good communication skills in English (oral and written) are required.
  • Experience in standard molecular biology, microbiology, immunology techniques, and expertise in intestinal mucosal barrier function, gut microbiota research, anaerobic bacteria culturing, and inflammatory bowel disease are highly advantageous.

Job Description:

The Postdoctoral Fellow will work in the Schröder lab, part of the Laboratory of Molecular Infection Medicine Sweden (MIMS). The research focus will include:

  • Investigating host-microbe interactions in the intestine using gut microbiota analyses and microbiota transplantations (FMT).
  • Utilizing ex vivo mucus measurements, metabolomics, antimicrobial assays, as well as confocal and fluorescence microscopy.
  • Conducting dietary interventions in both mice and humans, collaborating closely with clinicians and nutrition scientists.
  • Exploring the role of microbiota-mucus interactions in intestinal diseases.
  • Developing high-quality presentations and engaging with a diverse audience across multiple disciplines.
