RequirementDetails
Educational BackgroundCompleted advanced level degree (at least 240 higher education credits, including 60 at advanced level).
CourseworkMinimum 30 credits in chemistry (7.5 in biochemistry), 45 credits in biology/molecular biology (7.5 in genetics), 22.5 in microbiology, physiology, and cell/molecular biology.
Language ProficiencyProficient in oral and written English.
ExperiencePrevious experience in basic laboratory techniques; expertise in immunology, developmental biology, imaging, microinjection, and CRISPR/Cas9-based mutagenesis is highly valued.
Other SkillsBioinformatics experience or willingness to develop such skills; good communication and teamwork abilities are essential.

Job Description

The PhD project will focus on investigating mechanisms by which potential host gene editing processes increase the diversity of antigen receptors using invertebrate model systems. The student will be involved in:

  • Advanced experimental techniques including CRISPR/Cas9 mutagenesis, imaging, genomics, and single-cell transcriptomics.
  • Collaboration with various researchers at the Department of Molecular Biology, the Laboratory for Molecular Infection Medicine Sweden (MIMS), and the Umeå Center for Microbial Research (UCMR).
